Logan's Birthday, Part 2

We've lived in Colorado nearly four years now. For the first three years, we had only four friends. And one of them was my sister. Then, Logan was born, we joined the "Mountain Moms" group, and he made a bunch of friends for us. To celebrate the big 1, we decided to have a joint birthday party with Logan, Quin, Ayla, Riley, and Jac. They're all January babies, born within 2 weeks of eachother. It was super fun, but utterly chaotic with 15 kids under 2 in our little house.

Getting ready for cake:

Singing happy birthday. The pink baby, Riley, on the right touched her candle and burnt her finger. Oops.

Digging in

Logan polishing off his cupcake. He has definitely inherited our sweet tooth.

Its hard to believe how fast a year can go. Happy birthday Logan, Riley, Quin, Jac, & Ayla!

San Diego/ ABQ

We spent the weekend visiting Rob, Julie, and Sam in San Diego. Rob is our old friend from Air Force days, and Mark’s old roommate. Sam was born in October and we hadn’t met him yet, so it was time for a visit. Rob and Julie came to visit us when Logan was the same age. It was fun to remember that age—the constant wide-eyed, surprised look, the squeaks and smiles-- and see how much Logan’s changed in just 9 months. We ate fish tacos downtown, went hiking at Torrey Pines, and watched the sun set from their roof deck. Mark and Rob also went surfing, and Mark came back declaring surfing was his new second favorite hobby and thinking we might need a second home in San Diego. I don’t disagree. It was really nice to escape winter for a couple days.

On the way home we made a stop in Albuquerque for Will and Katie’s wedding. We have fond memories of Albuquerque, and it was fun to be back there together for the first time since we moved 4 years ago. We got lunch at Kelly’s, stocked up on essential desserts at Trader Joe’s, and went for a hike in the foothills. It was great to see some of our old crew at the wedding— it felt like no time had passed at all. We did not manage to take any pictures of them, however we did get 11 photos of the cupcake tower. Got to have your priorities.

Hats

Logan is not a fan of hats. However, living as he does in Colorado, they are a necessary part of life. He got a couple new ones for Christmas, and I tried to make him try them on. He was not pleased.

Eventually he seemed to make peace with the raccoon hat.

Logan's First Birthday- Part 1

Zimmermans know that birthdays aren't really just one day. They're best stretched into a birthday weekend, a birthday week, maybe even a birthday month. And of course there's the 1/12th, 1/6th, 1/4th, 1/3rd, 5/12ths, half, 7/12ths, 2/3rds, 3/4ths, 5/6ths, and 11/12th birthdays. But the full birthday is of course the most important.

Logan & I celebrated his birthday, part 1, by staying home and having a snow day. His day started with some good swings and upside down time from Daddy.

We then spent a long time opening and closing doors, investigating cabinets, and pulling magnets off the fridge. We composed a message to thank Grandma, Grandma, and Grandpa for the great gifts:

And then we went outside for a hike in the snow.

When Daddy and Kendall got home, we ate the minimum amount of dinner necessary and then it was time for cake!

And then presents. Despite the great temptation of having unopened presents in the house, we managed to save a few until his actual birthday.

Happy Birthday Logan!

One Year

At one, Logan is turning into a toddler. When he’s displeased he squints his eyes, purses his lips, and breaths in and out fast as if he’s hyperventilating. I don’t know where he got that. I blame his cousins. He bit Kendall the other day—knowing her, she probably said something to deserve it, but still. He likes to wrestle and roughhouse with Daddy, and gets a thrill out of being thrown in the air and swung around upside down. He races everywhere, usually ending in a crash. He has red marks on his forehead most days. He loves to open and shut doors and cabinets, and pull DVDs off the shelf. He gravitates toward stairs, and he’s always finding new ways to step, roll, or fall down our one step. His favorite toys are Daddy’s toys—laptop, cell phone, remote control, Nalgene bottle. Besides those, he loves balls and anything with wheels—toy cars, strollers, wheelchairs. He likes to dance to the music from his little activity table. His favorite books are Little Puppy, which has a finger puppet puppy he likes to bite, and the Tooth Book. He likes to greet the babies on our fridge (from the Christmas cards we received) every morning, and he loves pulling the magnets off. He’s taken a special liking to the George Bush and snowman magnets in particular.
