Connecticut

We got to go back to Connecticut for a long weekend at the beginning of May. We left Colorado in a May 1st snowstorm and landed in beautiful spring weather in Connecticut. The daffodils and forsythia and that pretty pink flowering tree were all in bloom and the trees were just starting to get their leaves. It was even warm enough one day for Logan to swim at the beach. He may get the award for first in the pond this year. Logan, like every kid, loves water. He was the only one to venture in, but he kept saying "Come on in guys, the water is great!".

Logan loved his Uncle Andrew. He was quick to introduce him to visitors. "That's MY uncle Andrew. He's big!" He is big. Logan followed him around the yard as Andrew cleared out the pond in the backyard and got the waterfall running, and they raced around playing Sporticus and climbing on the boulders in the backyard. The pond was great entertainment-- there were about 20 frogs living in there, including a giant bullfrog.

Logan got in lots of good grandma time with legos, books, and bubbles. We hit all the requisite Newtown sites-- Trinity, flagpole, overlook, Dickinson, General Store, meadow, pond. The house is going on the market, so this may be one of our last trips. I'm sure I'll be one of those people that drag the kids back to the old neighborhood every chance I get. Of course, that may not be that often seeing as we live 2000 miles away.

We also happened upon Southford Falls one day, on our way home from visiting Uncle Andrew at work in Oxford.  Its only about half an hour from our house, but its not really on the way to anywhere we usually go, and I can't remember ever having been here before.  That day though, it was on the way home, and it seemed like a nice place to stop.  There was a sign pointing to a covered bridge, so we hiked down there, and then I realized this was the same spot my dad  & I had been in one of my favorite pictures of us from when I was about Logan's age.  It was a fun discovery.

Also of note was that Logan figured out how to climb out of the pack and play on this trip.  That made for not so restful nights as he ended up in bed with me, and fell out of the bed a couple times.  I thought we were going to move him to a bed around now to make way for the new baby, but I'm liking the crib more and more.  He still hasn't climbed out of that. The confined-ness of it is very... restful.  I think the baby will be just fine in a bassinet or pack and play for a few extra months.
