Rolling

Logan is now a rolling machine. As soon as I put him down on his back, he immediately rolls to his tummy—and then cries because he’s forgotten how to roll back the other way. This is problematic at night, because he does the same thing in his crib—rolls and then screams until someone comes to turn him over. He's like a turtle. Sometimes he just falls asleep on his tummy— and then I feel the need to check on him every 5 minutes to make sure he hasn’t suffocated.

Cousins

We've been very lucky to get to see a lot of Mike, Janelle, Lucas, & Axel this summer while they've been out in Colorado and Wyoming. Here's Logan & Axel watching TV together:

Playing blob tag at the park in Lander. Logan loved running around like a big kid, strapped to Mark. Mark tried to hold his head steady as he was running... but if he has any head problems later, I will blame it on blob tag.

Logan loved Aunt Janelle-- and he loved gnawing on her finger (he's teething). He spent an hour or two at the crag with her one afternoon so I could climb a little. Thanks Janelle!

Hanging out under Daddy's project at Wild Iris. This was a rare happy moment. Logan is liking his buzzy chair less and less-- he rolls and scooches around a lot these days and I think he feels trapped in the chair. We're going to have to come up with a new solution for the crag. Like a babysitter.

Happy Father's Day

Logan adores his dad. If Mark is in the room, Logan's eyes are always on him. No one can make Logan laugh like Mark can. Here are some pictures from their first few months together.

Rodeo Parade

Evergreen hosts a parade each year for Rodeo weekend. I have fond memories of going to the Newtown Labor Day parade every year when I was growing up, and insisted we take Logan to the Rodeo Parade. He didn't seem too impressed. Maybe next year.

Walking back to the car by Evergreen Lake after the parade. Logan seemed to like riding on Mark's shoulders, but he had a death grip on Mark's hair.

Monastery

We've been spending a lot of time climbing at the Monastery near Estes Park. Its not ideal for Logan-- and will be impossible as soon as he crawls-- so we're trying to climb there while we still can. Its a long hike in, by our standards, but scenic at least. There have been lots of wildflowers, and you can see Rocky Mountain National Park in the distance.

Logan hanging out in the gully at the base of Mark's project. Typically, I'm standing a few feet away, belaying Mark and singing "I've Been Working on the Railroad" (Logan's favorite song) as energetically as possible to try and distract him from the fact that he's still in the bouncy chair. The Ants Go Marching works sometimes too. And then we reach a point where nothing works.

Logan & me. This is the same day as the picture above, hiking in-- its just a lot colder in the gully.

Five Months

Last month Logan discovered his hands. This month it was his feet. He likes to hold his feet up and bring them to his face. He also likes to suck on his hands-- occasionally his thumb, but usually as many fingers as he can stuff in there. Sometimes he tries to get both fists in at once. He can be quite content in his crib for a long time, talking away while he plays with his hands and feet. He's pretty entertained by his mobile and his mirror too.

Logan is teething-- experienced mothers recognize this right away. I had to be told by my grandmother, and my mother, and my babysitter. I was surprised to find out this can go on for months before a tooth actually appears. It helps to rub his gums, and he likes to gnaw on my thumb or his baby bjorn. Teething rings don't seem to do much, but Tylenol before bed helps a little.

Logan's nicknames these days are Bug and Log-ster.

Auntie Kendall

Auntie Kendall tells it like it is. She informed Logan early on that Buddy (her dog) was smarter than him (because he knew his name and Logan did not). She doesn't hesitate to tell Logan that he's a lot of work, and she let's him know when he's being a brat. But I don't know what we'd do without her. She stayed up with Logan in the middle of the night when he was first born and we were exhausted to help him get through the night on the billibed. She gave him his first book and makes sure we read to him everyday. She introduced him to his best friend (Buddy). And when I need a break she'll babysit for a while. Thanks Auntie Kendall!
